July 7, 2007 ... 07.07.07 To commemorate Live Earth Day, and join the billions around the planet raising awareness about environmental issues, I submitted my final manuscript revisions ... electronically. No paper was used, so please alert environmental advocates Shakira, Snoop Dog, Kelly Clarkson, Pussycat Dolls and Spinal Tap that I am doing my part and down with their agenda.

The Live Earth show was fantastic, and if just 10% of the ideas shared throughout the broadcast are acted upon by the billions of viewers around the globe, the day should be charted as a success and the impact positive. Just going digital with your music versus buying CDs can be a HUGE savings - think about how much waste and energy can be saved between CD production, distribution and retail. The paper saved on the liner noted alone could go to something like, say, a debut novel by an aspiring writer.
Seriously, all of the artists who gave of themselves and are actually living the cause - KT Tunstall is doing some really cool stuff to make an environmental difference - deserve a hats off. My favorites among the performers who came together around the world are (in no particular order) Jack Johnson, Lenny Kravitz, Beastie Boys, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, Keane, Red Hot Chili Peppers (saw them in Jan '07 and they are still the tightest act ever!!), Snow Patrol, Spinal Tap, John Mayer and Smashing Pumpkins ("Zero" at times serves as an anthem of sorts for me).

Back to the book ... got my final revisions in today so I hope production can really get cranking. The cover is the next big piece of the puzzle, and I am excited to see what the team at iUniverse comes up with. It is going to be tight to get it all done by my target release date of August 25 - there's a vacation mixed in there where a life dream will come true when we take the kids to see the Boston Red Sox at Fenway (WICKED AWESOME!!) - but I'm confident we'll make it to the virtual book shelves by that date. This is why I chose to control my own destiny and self-publish Ocean Raton ... the wisdom of that choice will come clear once we're past the point of no return.
For now, email me so I can confirm my Inbox works or feel free to post your favorite conservation idea to the Ocean Raton Message Board. For instance, we do home composting, though Michelle and I are not all that sure about the environmental benefits the maggots we're incubating provide the neighborhood. Time will tell, though the spiders dig the buffet we're setting.
Until next we meet, build green and thanks for reading!!
