September 26 Taking a break from book promotion, let's focus on another passion: baseball (specifically the Boston Red Sox). If you've met Renee Vicarro in Ocean Raton, her love for the Sawx is a character trait shared direct from yours truly. As I've said, there's a little bit of me in every one of them. On to the diamond ...
In the NL I've been pulling for Philly, but as inconsistent and questionable as their pitching is, I think they're going to end up a game short. My picks:
In the play-offs I'll take the Mets over the Padres in four (even though they're currently going in opposite directions). D-Backs sweep Cubs and then turn around to take out New York in five.
On the AL side, no shockers here, but I'm picking:
You can accuse me of playing into the hype, personal bias or lack of objectivity, but the inevitable conclusion is Red Sox v Yankees. I was talking about this with a buddy of mine who is a Yankees fan (hey, if we can somewhat peacefully coexist, what the hell is the hold-up in the Middle East?), and the inevitable is what's evitable (did Yogi say that?). Sawx will take the Angels in four and the Yanks will need five to dispose of Cleveland.
The two greatest rivals in sports will then lock it up for a seven game series, and honestly, I have no idea who will win. The difference will, however, be determined by a player you are least likely to expect but do (if you know what I mean, Yogi) - Cabrera throws out Youk in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a win OR Ellsbury homers off The Sandman in the bottom of the ninth to win.
And after all that, Arizona wins the World Series in five ;-)
We Want More ... Just Like 2004
We'll see soon enough how accurate my picks are ... what about yours? If you're Jimmy "The Greek" reincarnate (save for the whole racist, breeding of black athletes theories), please email me your picks, or better yet, post them for all the world to see on the Ocean Raton Message Board. Until next we meet ...
