| John's Occasional Daily Diary |
November 3, 2007 Saturday night, the kids are in bed, Michelle is relaxing, and I'm about to join her and do the same. It's been almost two months since Ocean Raton released, and in that time some amazing things have happened. WARNING: I enjoyed a couple beers with dinner tonight at the Yardhouse - check out Widmer Hefeweizen and BayHawk Hefeweizen ... tasty - so I'm feeling mellow and about to wax reflective (if you're in no mood for introspection I recommend you just skip down and watch the funny video clips without explanation).
Back to my wax (or wax to my back?), I've had the opportunity to meet and correspond with some other new authors, sharing ideas, anxieties and laughs. Through my Ocean Raton outpost on MySpace I have met some very cool and interesting people that have entertained me hopefully much as my work has entertained them. Patience has once again been reaffirmed as a virtue, and I find that in some ways I am still an "awkward teen" about my writing: uncomfortable with praise and quick to perceive criticism as an indicator I suck, am a no-talent hack, and would be better off just hanging out in my buddy's basement getting stoned listening to Zeppelin.
And over the course of these last two months what has been affirmed more than anything is the value of laughter. No wellness program (when did that happy little phrase replace "keep your ass in shape"?) is complete without a healthy daily dose of the stuff. The ability to laugh at yourself, situations, circumstances, and the world are key to survival and sanity.
Which is the perfect note to end my cogitation on and join Michelle for some laughs watching Saturday Night Live. Below you'll find a couple of SNL bits from earlier this year that caused LMAO in both of us (just recently learned what that acronym means - thought maybe it was some non-threatening terrorist cell like the Lethargic Militant Anorexic Organization). Enjoy!
